a mexican-themed wedding in the wine country • calistoga, ca

Not only do this bride and I share over 20 years of friendship with each other and our families but we also share a love of Latin America— in particular our south of the border neighbor, Mexico. Laurie and Steve's wedding was a perfect blend of Mexico infused into the Wine Country: a Mariachi band playing with Calistoga vineyards in the backdrop; Sonoma white and red wines paired with homemade margaritas and sangria; and delicious Puerto Rican food by Marin County favorite Sol Food.

This wedding screams color—from the handmade red wedding dress from Thailand to the Mexican tin cards to the brightly colored hanging paper cutouts to the Día de los Muertos wedding cake topper—making all the detail shots that much more eye-popping. Felicidades a Los Buehlers!!

the house of shields re-opens • san francisco, ca

There's plenty of old bars in San Francisco, but few over a hundred years old, which is just one reason why the House of Shield's re-opening is so newsworthy. Condé Nast Traveler granted the bar's re-opening for its Unpacked newsletter feature yesterday, loving that the bar has no clock (or a TV); the SF Chronicle's Inside Scoop column ogles over the authentic "period piece" detailing (check out the brass statue lighting fixtures below); and foodie blog favorite Tablehopper digs up some juicy historical facts about the former men's drinking club. And I love that there will be absolutely no mention of "mixology" here!

The House of Shields is located at 39 New Montgomery Street, across from the Palace Hotel, in San Francisco.
